The Nursery section of the school caters for children who are 2-3 years old. In a nurturing, friendly and secure environment, our youngest pupils begin their educational journey.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) offers a structured programme to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills and to develop as a member of the social group that is the school. The curriculum is conceptualised in seven areas of development. Personal, Social and Emotional; Physical; and Communicative/Linguistic are what we call the "prime" areas, which underlie everything else. Literacy (learning to read and write); Numeracy/Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive Art and Design are the further four "specific" areas, each of which has its own modes of thinking and doing.
On top of this structure, there is also great flexibility: children benefit enormously from being encouraged to feed their own particular curiosities and interests and being given plenty of opportunities to play, explore and experiment in a safe environment. Our school campus lies right on the threshold between bustling city and open countryside, providing perfect conditions for rich and plentiful experience.
School for Nursery children is open between 7.30am and 6.00pm almost the whole year round. Curriculum time (official school hours) is between 9am and 3.30pm, after which we offer optional clubs until 4.30pm and further after-school care until the end of the day. We provide regular nutritious meals throughout the day and, particularly for the younger children, that all-important nap time after lunch.
